Happy Friday! Sooooo glad it's Friday.
We're off to a going-away party for J's sister tonight - she's moving back to Greece tomorrow - and then to a wedding tomorrow night.
I think there's going to be something weird about going to a wedding now that we're married.
I hope that J and I don't do that whole comparing thing the whole time. Like, 'oh my, I can't believe they used that in the ceremony' or 'what a nasty appetizer, I would have never chosen that'. Though I think I'm being a little harsh on us. We try to be open-minded and realize that everyone chooses what they choose for a reason, and it's not our place to judge.
Y and R are going to a friend from high school's wedding on Sunday. So crazy. It'll be a weekend full of weddings! Hers will be outdoors (right, Y?) in Kent Island, so that'll be really picturesque I'm sure. Y's a bridesmaid. Can't wait to see the pictures!
Have a happy weekend! Try not to attend too many weddings.

The Weekend Wrap-Up
@
2:22 PM
I hope everyone’s Halloween was great and safe. Ours was.
We went over to J’s mom’s house on Sunday night. We took the dogs. They wore their reindeer costumes a la our 2009 Christmas card. That's what I call being resourceful.
Gotta go get the picture from home so that I can upload it here. You’ll die. J’s nephew wore his Woody costume from Toy Story. We had pizza and ate candy. It was very relaxing.
I also worked on two custom orders for a customer who is purchasing two of my belts as Christmas gifts. I hope she likes them.

Saturday I hung out with friends. We made my delicious pumpkin muffins and then checked out some stores at the Mall for Christmas gifts. Then J and I went to his friend’s house for a Halloween party. J wore a ridiculous mullet wig. His friends were in town from out of state, and they dressed as a zombie Santa and an old lady. So funny. I wish I had pictures of that, too.
Oh, and Friday night J proposed.
Yep.
It’s true.
I’m being serious.
Pretty badass (!!!), huh?

Ah, the ubiquitous Halloween post.
One of my ideas for a costume this year is a nod to one of my blog categories – “I die” – a la Rachel Zoe.
How cute would J and I be as Rachel Zoe and her assistant, Brad? J’s still not on board, but I think I’ll sway him.
His best friend, who lives in New York, and his wife are coming down this weekend for the rally. We always try to see them when they’re here, and it just so happens that another friend in the area is throwing a Halloween party. Which I found out about yesterday. Which I’d like a costume for. Cutting it close, my friends.
Then there’s Brad. Too bad J isn’t in to skinny jeans.
I think we’d have to go for Brad circa Season 1, because Brad since then has been way too stylish to even simulate on our Halloween budget.
J would need some skinny jeans, though I might forgo those and let him wear his regular jeans. He’d need a plaid shirt and a bowtie. He’d need some back rim glasses. Maybe some suspenders? We already have hair products.
Though too bad I just stumbled upon this article while digging up the stuff for this post.

I’m thinking all I need to buy to pull this off is a faux fur vest and some ginormous sunglasses, though I might have some I can use. I was hoping to borrow some big rings from a friend. I already have some wide-leg jeans. I already have tall shoes. Already have a little beanie beret thing. I’d probably still need a long sleeve white tunic. I already have a ton of draping necklaces. Maybe I could buy some fake eyelashes and red lipstick (which I’ve always wanted) from the beauty shop. And making my hair wavy shouldn’t be too bad.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Wooooo. Here comes a weekend wrap-up. Haven't had one of those in a while.
This weekend was GREAT. Just what J and I needed.
Friday night we went out to celebrate a best friend's birthday. We had dinner and then went back to her house for cupcakes. Pretty sweet.
Saturday we went to the annual Walk for Paws, an event put on by the Animal Advocates of Howard County. This was our fourth year going with J's family. We all bring our dogs, meet other dogs, play dog games, and win prizes. Oh, and our dogs enjoy the free dog ice cream. Very fun. These events are pretty common for most rescue organizations, so check out yours nearby - it's a great event for the family.
Afterward, we stuck with J's family and checked out a local petting zoo/maze/pumpkin patch as well. We spent hours there. It was tons of fun for all of us, but I think J's 2-year-old nephew enjoyed it the most. J and I felt like we needed a kid to attend. Ahem.
That night we did some stuff at home and then went over to our neighbor's for some firepit time. They built it the week we moved in. I like to think of it as a welcome gift, ha.
I also finished the handmade thank-you cards I was making for my stepdad's wedding. I took some pictures so I'll share them soon. Thanks, D, R, Y, J, and mom for your help!
Sunday we went to the wedding, which was a very casual outdoor wedding on the bay. It was beautiful. And J loved it because the Redskins game was on for everyone to watch in the mansion where the wedding was held.
Whew. Obviously we got very little house stuff done, but hopefully this week will be a bit better.
I was hoping to dedicate this week to making some things to bring along to the craft fair I'm participating in this coming weekend, but I got some very bad news for my shop this morning.
Apparently I didn't file my business's Personal Property stuff last year or this year. First, I didn't know about it and never received anything in the mail prior to this weekend. Second, when I got the document I thought it wasn't that big of a deal because I had no personal property for the period it was for.
But then when I read the finer print, I discovered that you must file every year whether you were (a) doing business during the period and (b) whether you made a profit and (c) whether your business had Personal Property AND that the filing fee is $300.
Can you BELIEVE that? And because I'm a year behind, really I owe $600.
Let me just tell you - with all the house stuff, I really don't have an extra $600. I'm thinking I might have to close the shop if I don't figure out a way around this. Total bummer.
Soooo maybe my week will be spent on the house instead. Yikes.

Stressed

4:05 PM
Poor J.
I’ve been a raging you-know-what the past few weeks. No one told me that AFTER picking out the house but BEFORE settling, I’d still be feeling anxious. Granted, I thought I’d feel impatient, but I’m still feeling stressed out. And it’s that kind of stress that you don’t realize until you’ve bitten someone’s head off.
This weekend J and I went to his grandmother’s river house in Virginia for a weekend away. His mom and grandmother were going to go down a day before, but we couldn’t go until after work on Friday. Which means we arrived at 10 pm.
I don’t think I actually STARTED to relax until about 4 pm on Saturday. Which left very little time for river-house relaxation before we turned around to leave around 1 on Sunday.
And about half the time there I spent sleeping. Literally. The last leg of the drive down I slept. I went to sleep around 12:30 Friday night. Woke up around 11 Saturday. Took a three hour nap (with J!… it wasn’t just me!) Saturday, then went to bed promptly at 11. Woke up at 9:30. Took a nap at 10:30. Then when we arrived home, we took another 2 hour nap. Can you believe that?
If I didn’t know any better, I’d say I’m pregnant. With my new jizzob and shorter days, I’m able to wake up a whopping hour later than I used to. Which is glorious. I am so not a morning person. And yet, I still need sleep.
At least I’m not as bad as my old coworker who literally went to sleep around 7:30 every night so she’d get at least 9 hours for her 5 am alarm. Can you believe it? 7:30? Goodbye, life.
Anyway, here’s to hoping that this last week until our settlement, J and I are able to focus on fun things, not stressful things. Like fans and lighting. Oh boy, lighting! I already found a fanfrickintastic drum light on etsy – for only 88 buckaroonies, at that! – that J and I BOTH loved.*
Except.
Oh, except.
I contacted the etsy seller to see if she had the fabric for said drum light in stock, since her listing mentioned that it was customizable, and no. Nope. That fabric is not in stock. Way to devastate me.** Though, thankfully, she’s going to source some similar fabric for free. I’ll let you know how that turns out since I’ve got my mind made up and won’t be happy unless she finds. that. fabric.
Happy Monday!
*After almost four years together, I can’t believe how many things J and I have disagreed about regarding the new house. It’s pretty much a safe bet that if I like a, he’ll like z. His grandmother told me that if we can survive buying a house, we can survive anything. I say bring it on.
**Cue the realization that I’m becoming one of those people who’s life crumbles because shecan’t find the wedding shoe in her size/the linens are the wrong shade of mulberry/the baby booties have robins when I wanted finches/the couch is three inches too long for her space! Oh please help me.
