Craft Fair Recap

Well, the craft fair was a pretty big success - for my first one and my worries of selling nothing.

My alarm didn't go off (user error) and I got pretty lost on the way there, making for a late start in setting up, but overall it went well. I was worried that no one would come and that I wouldn't sell anything to those few poor fools who made it there. But alas, people came (not a terribly good turn-out, but that's alright), friends and family supported (thanks, J, mom, Nanc, Janet, D, R, Y, and Angie + Josh!), and I sold things. To 12 people, to be exact.

Okay, granted, five of those people were among the supporters just mentioned, but seven people were STRANGERS! I even recorded them on my Purchases tracker that way.

I sold 20 pieces total and made four new pieces while sitting there, one of which sold about 10 minutes after I put it down. Also, two of the three pieces I made last week in frantic preparation sold. What does that tell me? Either my taste is improving or the quality of the work - or both.

Annnnd I had a free raffle for a $25 gift certificate and already announced the winner - from my 11 submissions. Not bad. J thinks I should really push the free raffle to build up a solid base of newsletter recipients, which is where the collection of their email addresses came in. I think he's probably right.

So while at the start of the morning I thought it was going to be horrible, wondering if another crafter was selling dignity that I could buy, by the end I felt a kind of high from it. And then when my stepmom reminded me of our new neighborhood's elementary school craft fair coming up - at the same elementary school I attended, hollller - I think I'll try it. It's in a few weeks and hopefully people will be more desperate for holiday gifts by then. Plus, registration is $15 cheaper than this weekend's fair was.

Sorry I don't have pictures. I'm so bad about that. I even brought my camera to take a shot of my set-up, but I think you can hardly call it a set-up compared to some of the other crazy booths people had. Including A Cup of Green Ginger's booth, a beautiful shop with tons of vintage-materials-incorporated goodies. My only purchase all day was from that booth, where I bought a "wallet" in a delicious pink floral fabric. I just love it. In fact, it's sitting in front of me right now.
