Weekend Wrap-Up

Wooooo. Here comes a weekend wrap-up. Haven't had one of those in a while.

This weekend was GREAT. Just what J and I needed.

Friday night we went out to celebrate a best friend's birthday. We had dinner and then went back to her house for cupcakes. Pretty sweet.

Saturday we went to the annual Walk for Paws, an event put on by the Animal Advocates of Howard County. This was our fourth year going with J's family. We all bring our dogs, meet other dogs, play dog games, and win prizes. Oh, and our dogs enjoy the free dog ice cream. Very fun. These events are pretty common for most rescue organizations, so check out yours nearby - it's a great event for the family.

Afterward, we stuck with J's family and checked out a local petting zoo/maze/pumpkin patch as well. We spent hours there. It was tons of fun for all of us, but I think J's 2-year-old nephew enjoyed it the most. J and I felt like we needed a kid to attend. Ahem.

That night we did some stuff at home and then went over to our neighbor's for some firepit time. They built it the week we moved in. I like to think of it as a welcome gift, ha.

I also finished the handmade thank-you cards I was making for my stepdad's wedding. I took some pictures so I'll share them soon. Thanks, D, R, Y, J, and mom for your help!

Sunday we went to the wedding, which was a very casual outdoor wedding on the bay. It was beautiful. And J loved it because the Redskins game was on for everyone to watch in the mansion where the wedding was held.

Whew. Obviously we got very little house stuff done, but hopefully this week will be a bit better.

I was hoping to dedicate this week to making some things to bring along to the craft fair I'm participating in this coming weekend, but I got some very bad news for my shop this morning.

Apparently I didn't file my business's Personal Property stuff last year or this year. First, I didn't know about it and never received anything in the mail prior to this weekend. Second, when I got the document I thought it wasn't that big of a deal because I had no personal property for the period it was for.

But then when I read the finer print, I discovered that you must file every year whether you were (a) doing business during the period and (b) whether you made a profit and (c) whether your business had Personal Property AND that the filing fee is $300.

Can you BELIEVE that? And because I'm a year behind, really I owe $600.

Let me just tell you - with all the house stuff, I really don't have an extra $600. I'm thinking I might have to close the shop if I don't figure out a way around this. Total bummer.

Soooo maybe my week will be spent on the house instead. Yikes.

Wow, I am so sorry. Is there any way you can make payments on what you owe? I'm just starting to feel my way through all the legalities of running this type of business...and what is 'personal property' belonging to a business? Isn't the exact nature of 'personal' is that it belongs to a person? I'm confused.

You're so sweet! I know - I didn't get it either. I posted in the forums and a lot of people were saying to check the credibility of the letter I received - but it's legit. Too bad, too, when small businesses like us are trying to make it and have a bit of fun in the process.
